The Lonnie Donegan Band is as the name suggests. This is the band that toured with the legend for the last 30 years. For those of you who saw Lonnie Donegan perform in more recent years, then you will instantly recognise them:
| Paul Henry |
Lead Guitar |
| Chris Hunt |
Drums |
| Sticky Wicket |
Percussion |
| Eddie Masters |
Bass |
| Peter Donegan |
Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica, Mandolin, Lead Vocals |
The band reformed after Lonnie's passing to perform at the Rock Island Line tribute concert for Lonnie, at the Royal Albert Hall, backing artists such as Joe Cocker, Chris Farlow, Rolf Harris, Roger Daltrey, Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison, Chris Barber, to name a few...
After this they joined Peter and Anthony Donegan on tour with "Lonnie D" the Lonnie Donegan Story from 2004 until 2006.
Currently the band tour as the same line up as the last tour with Lonnie, featuring Lonnie's son Peter Donegan on keyboards and harmonica - only this time Peter also performs lead vocals, acoustic guitar and banjo, fronting the band.
During each performance they sing aome of Lonnie's classics such as "Putting On The Syle", "Have a Drink On Me", "Rock Island Line", and "Pick a Bale of Cotton" to name just a few. But they also delve into some of Lonie's lesser known recordings and some unissued tracks as well as performing some original songs written by Peter. It adds up to a great night of Skiffle, Blues, Jazz and a lot of foot-stomping fun! |

REVIEWS
Lonnie Donegan Band (featuring Peter Donegan) – Viking Club, Selsey 12.04.09
The first thing that strikes you as you enter the Viking Club in Selsey is how kitsch it all is. If you didn’t know better you’d think you were in a roadhouse in Texas and all that was missing were the brawls and broken glass. Well, there may well have been some broken glass (but I didn’t see any) and whilst some of the audience were wearing cowboy shirts they were more civilised and it was obvious they were here to witness the son of a legend…and I don’t use that term lightly. Re-creating that raunchy country-rock ‘feel’ Peter Donegan proves a more than capable front man utilising guitar, banjo, and piano aided by Lonnie’s original band members. Starting with “Jack20O’ Diamonds” in a whirlwind delivery of licks that would make your fingers smart lead guitarist Paul Henry shone like the proverbial beacon joined by Eddie Masters on bass and Chris Hunt’s drums. Scarcely pausing for breath we were treated to many standards including “Battle Of New Orleans”, “Tom Dooley” and of course “My Old Man’s A Dustman”… all classics and all revered by a more than eager crowd. The hits came fast and furious and Peter’s own compositions nestled comfortably within the set which, before long sadly was all over. Personally I can’t wait to see the band again and preferably sooner than later. http://www.peterdonegan.com
PETE FYFE
SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE VIKING
Peter Donegan,& the Lonnie Donegan Band. I had a rare treat this evening an evening of English Folk/Country rock /Skiffle at the Viking. Since the passing of Lonnie Donegan his band has remained true to its roots with an amazing addition. Paul Henry Lead Guitar, Chris Hunt Drums, Sticky Wicket Percussion, Eddie Masters Bass, Peter Donegan Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica, Mandolin, Lead Vocals. Peter Donegan a true talent in his own right. They obviously pay homage to the great late Lonnie airing songs that he laid down into to archives of history, throughout two sets The Lonnie Donegan band with Peter Donegan as the lead singer has so much soul it was a privilege to hear him sing his style is his very own; His passion for the music shows, and yes sometimes a glimpse of Lonnie is there for all to see but this man Peter Donegan stands in no body’s shadow. His talent shines through especially when you listen to him sing blues, WOW.
